Octopus project, Brugge 2002 Cultural Capital of Europe

Octopus was the contemporary art program of Bruges 2002. This program was not conceived as an exhibition but as an artistic movement that had no permanent residence. It stretched its tentacles for four months in extraordinary locations, which could be visited on foot and by bus. The artists got the first and the last word. Octopus was therefore not an exhibition with a theme predefined by a curator, but rather a mental platform where the curator thinks along with the artists.

It was his task to channel the dynamic network of arts into several Proposals ('In Situ', 'Modular Museum', 'Disposable Kunsthalle'), Platforms ('De Slang', 'Kanttattoo', 'Octopus Outside') Interventions (temporary installations, performances, an academic workshop and a salon) and an Octopus Archive (or catalog).
