Content description

This book reproduces the flags of the forty-five countries of Sub-Saharan Africa together with the flag designed by Marcus Garvey in 1917 to represent an African homeland for Afro-Americans.

A version of TICK-TOCK was originally created for gallery M, Harlem, New York City, 2001, in an attempt to counteract the silence on the subject of AIDS in New York City’s Afro-American community.” -from the artist’s forward

In this updated version, beneath each flag a digital clock counts down from 46 seconds to the moment before time’s up. The french-fold pages are perforated to be broken open and to reveal AIDS statistics for each nation. Slip-covered in a translucent latex cover.
